Fenster quartz acquired its name for the complex interior skeletal structure which has created many windows and chambers within the crystal. The name is derived from the German word Fenster meaning window. The unique formation is caused by internal and external dissolution growth which is the result of unstable conditions during crystallization. These chambers often trap water bubbles which glide within the interior. Light reflects from the interior planes creating dancing patterns of light as you turn the crystal in your hand. The crystals have grown in a very similar formation as a Herkimer diamond in combination with elestial formations. For this reason, these crystals are also known as Elestial Lightkeepers.

This is the largest and most complex of the fensters that were picked up in Springfield this past summer. Its interior is so packed with internal crystalline features it masks the actual clarity of the quartz. Every time you look at the crystal you discover something completely different about it. Gaze at this one under magnification and you'll easily become lost in the internal world of the crystal. Old bruises can be found that are camouflaged by their own healing with the etchings on the surface. Companion crystals are nestled into the one end of this double terminated crystal, it is hard to know where one crystal ends and another begins. Cavities lead deep into the crystal interior. The energy has a very watery feel, soothing to the emotions. While I cannot find any water bubble still present, this old soul was in the presence of water for so long that the energy of water has bonded with its natural energy.
